Nadia Elena Comaneci
It was at the Montreal Olympic Games 1976 that she scored one of the most unforgettable moment in the history of sports - - the first-ever perfect 10, for the asymmetrical bar. In addition, Comaneci had six other perfect 10s and made her fourteen years age, the youngest Olympic medalist in all categories. Nadia Comaneci was able to draw international attention and aid in helping Romania get its place as a major player on the international stage. In achieving an unachievable result she became an iconic image and helped promote athletics across the globe. The sport changed the way people view female gymnasts. Her impact on the Olympics was so significant it is that 2 of her movements, the toe-on move and the release movement have been named after her. Both have been rated as difficult to the highest level. Besides Olympics her performance was impressive. She also showed outstanding performance at the World Championships and European Championships and was subsequently an icon as well as one of the best-known gymnasts the world could ever have. Also, she modelled and promoted the sport of gymnastics after making the move into the US.
